I really would like to write something new. The problem is every time I try it always comes out sounding whiney and pathetic and nobody wants to hear that crap. Lately my world has turned a bit on it's ear and, well, I'm still trying to figure out what to do about it. To add to it, today at work we were sat down and told that things are not going well for the business and we may want to start thinking about an exit strategy. Not that this is really a big surprise considering the exciting economic environment we find ourselves in, but still not what you want to hear the day before Thanksgiving. Or the day before anything, for that matter. Unless it's the day before you hear that all of the troubles have passed and we can now proceed without worry. Hopefully one of the bailout packages that are being cooked up in Washington will turn out to be more than just the soup du juor and more like the bacon-wrapped fillet that we've always wanted to order. Ok, maybe not the best metaphor but I'm a bit hungry just at the moment, forgive me. I was, like many of you (and unlike many others of you) completely ecstatic when Mr. Obama won the election. I have high hopes for the man. But at the same time I have big reservations. Yes, he's going to be the President of the United States of America, a title that used to mean something great. Yes, he's determined to change the status quo in government. Yes, he's promised to cut my taxes and do his damnedest to get me affordable health care coverage. Yes, he's the first ever African American President. He's a great many great things. But he's not a magic Santa Claus. He can't just pull all of this shit out of a great big bag in the back of a sleigh pulled by 8 tiny, bi-partisan committee members, even if he paints Hillary's nose red. He's going to have a major uphill battle on his hands. He still has to pick out an adorable, cuddly, hypo-allergenic first pooch for crying out loud! And there are people all over the world who have admitted to thinking of him not just as President of the US, but as President of the World. That's a whole freakin' mess of expectation to live up to. Hopefully he's really the political wunderkind we've built him up to be. Hopefully he can get the rest of the government to work constructively with him and get this financial shitstorm turned around before it beggars us all. It's already well on it's way. Holy crap, this isn't even what I wanted to talk about here tonight.

Unfortunately I've gotten so far off track and so tired in the meantime that I can't even remember what it was I actually wanted to say. It probably had something to do with bole weevils or yogurt or something. I'm going to bed. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody.

Marketing Fail

Yesterday I received a promo flyer from AT&T encouraging me to switch to their wireless service and offering me a "free camera phone" as incentive. You might have thought they would cross check their records and notice that the name and address to which they mailed this promotional flyer is the same name and address to which they already mail the bill for my iPhone, a phone for which they are the sole service provider! If they can't even tell who their customers are, it's no wonder their service so utterly atrocious.
